as 2007 fast approaches, i have this inexplicable need to pin down a few things that made 2006 memorable for me. nothing fancy nor earth-shattering really, just a few things that made this past year a bit more different than the last
– uh-oh, there's the alarm… well i just i'll just leave this list hanging for now. happy new year to us all!!
p.s. one thing more [edited jan. 2], if scorcese doesn't bag his well-deserved oscar this year… i'm giving up on watching the oscars aarghh!
[there's been a lot of good films this year that could aspire to that golden statuette — pan's labyrinth (loved it), little miss sunshine (not exactly a laugh-out-loud flick, but i had this silly grin on my face), letters from iwo jima (i haven't seen it though) or maybe dreamgirls (nor this either). i'm still holding out for The Departed though. not just because scorcese is long overdue for it, but because no other movie has kept me quivering on the edge of my seat as much as this one did.]
whoahh — so this marks my first post (halleluiah!!)
kidding (and countless exclamation points) aside, this will probably sound a bit rushed and a tad incoherent because it's dec. 30 and i'm looking over my last batch of purchases before i prepare for our media noche tomorrow (so long 2006). i am also trying to get over a particularly murky paragraph, which i'd been working on for the last 15 minutes with indifferent results, while keeping half an eye on my balky mp3 player (zen vision m).
it's our last day of work for the year (OT rate, yay!). good thing i'm not out there rushing home to the province or something. the traffic in the metro's main highways simply looks horrendous.
in any case, with all the sobering and upbeat things that have been happening lately, i feel vaguely hopeful for the coming year. maybe, despite all our missteps (thousands of 'em) and shaky ventures we're finally (the country?) moving forward. the pace may shame that of a snail's, but hey as long as we're shuffling along in the same direction i'd be content to call that progress (ahem!).
for me personally, 2007 will be a year of big decisions and changes, hopefully leading to something bigger and better: more travel, meeting new people, longer time to blog (*wink, wink*), more patience and tolerance (for me!)… there are also a few personal and professional matters that need to be settled before i can move on. i expect i'll have to cross this bridge sooner than later. and if things go as planned (fingers crossed), by march i'll be somewhere else.
until then, i'll be keeping record of my wayward efforts to curb my impertinent, tactless tongue and predilection for yummy, bursting-with-calories goodies this season; as well as keeping a tight rein over my yawns while in the office; etc., etc.
