well! at least my bets are in: scorcese, dicaprio, wahlberg, streep, The Departed. i don't care if they win or not. i'm just glad they're in, particularly mark wahlberg. i thought they would give the nomination to jack n. (not that he needs another trophy).
i think helen m. and forest w. are sure bets, along with martin scorcese (they’d better, or else oscar voters will face the wrath of scorcese diehards harhahhar. either that or marty’s fans will commit collective suicide, according to an amused critic)
for supporting bets, j. hudson’s chances look solid. a lot of people don’t really like e. murphy so i think his chances are a bit shaky. it could go to either arkin to haley. i’m praying for a minor miracle that m. wahlberg will get the voters’ nod.
i’m still hoping that voters will pick The Departed for best film though
I bet Little Miss Sunshine for best picture.
the movie is very simple yet very compelling.
Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine)–that lil girl from the movie Signs– “there’s a monster in my room, can i have a glass of water?”
She’s my bet, too.
Posted by tae at January 24, 2007, 1:18 pmYup! I agree. Helen might win and break the curse that only women below 40 (the babe factor) only win at the Oscars for best actress. Have you seen the Los Angeles The Movie issue? She’s at the cover donning a peek-a-boo pose. Imagine a 60yo wrinkled woman showing her naughty side? So not for me…
Posted by alvin at January 24, 2007, 1:33 pmi liked Little Miss Sunshine, too (which surprised me at the time). it was quirky and insiduously funny. a. breslin’s nomination took me by surprise though.
actually a lot of younger men (relatively) find helen m. attractive. she’s been involved with a number of them (incl. liam neeson at one time). some say she’s something of a relationship breaker
although she’s been married to taylor hackford for years now. incredible huh?
by the way i liked her in Elizabeth I (tv movie)
Posted by onyxx at January 24, 2007, 2:41 pmWhen Little Miss Sunshine won the PGA last week everyone was expecting little Breslin to be nominated. Remember, it’s impossible for Little Miss not to be included in the oscar best picture since it was named by the PGA already…
Yes, Helen is still attractive but to do a peek-a-boo pose when you’re 60yo. Man, I wont allow my mom to do that. hehehe
Her entourage had their reasons for doing that. I can’t believe she won the TV actress at the Golden Globes over Annette Bening’s performance for Mrs. Harris?!
i wish my Leo would win. =(

Once again, a lot of people were surprised when they unveiled the Oscar nominees. Where’s Brad for Babel? I was happy for Leo for Blood Diamond but he’s not going to win. If they wanted him to win then they would have nominated him for the Departed instead. It would make perfect sense if the voters want The Departed to win best picture?! My friends and I have been following the Oscars for many years.
Posted by alvin at January 24, 2007, 10:10 amMy forecast:
Best Picture: Babel
Best Director: Martin Scorsese (Finally!)
Best Actress: If Helen wins at SAG next week then she’s so sure of this. Kate Winslet is my bet though!
Best Actor: Forest Withaker (Of course I want Leo to win)
Best Supporting Actor: Eddie Murphy (I want Djimon to win)
Best Supporting Actress: Jennifer Hudson
