aussie open ‘07: it’s serena

that's right. unseeded serena williams has claimed the women's singles title over maria sharapova in 2 overpowering straight sets (6-1, 6-2). it's also her third aussie title (singles).

dang. i'm so depressed i can't even drag myself to write about it (two of the players i'd been rooting for lost spectacularly). but there you have it…

anyway, here's a droll snippet on Roddick (i got this from the Sydney Morning Herald).

…Roddick was not in a good mood when he walked into his post-match press conference. In fact, he was prickly. "It was frustrating. You know, it was miserable. It sucked. It was terrible. Besides that, it was fine," Roddick said of the loss.

He then quipped that his coach Jimmy Connors gave him a beer after the match rather than talking to him. But the press conference also had its comical moments. Like when a journalist suggested this: "Your performance here [in the press conference] is better than on court."

Roddick: "My performance here is better than on court?"

Journalist: "Right."
