dang. i miss the x-files so much it hurts. i miss racing home monday nights so i wouldn’t miss an episode. i miss being intrigued by mind-boggling, outlandish conspiracy theories. i miss being ’spooked’ and scared witless by monsters — humans or otherwise. i miss the wacky paranoia of the lone gunmen. most of all, i miss mulder and scully. there will never be another show like the x-files. *sigh* dang.
why do i miss it?
let me count the ways…
when these two are on the case, you can’t help but be glued to your TV screen. i don’t know of any other screen couple who can combust without so much as an eye contact. even nature’s call is conveniently swept aside when these walk into a scene and expound on their conflicting theories. the grisly nature of their job only adds to their chemistry. the first time i saw them together (in mulder’s dingy basement office) i couldn’t make up my mind whether i preferred scully or mulder. i liked mulder’s intensity and unflinching conviction, and yet i couldn’t help but be impressed by scully’s cool-headed logic and refusal to be pigeonholed into a stereotype. they just balanced each other out.
and here… scully flashes her hard-won smile!
after years of watching x-files, i can’t recall of ever seeing scully break into a spontaneous, no-holds-barred smile (well, except for that Las Vegas episode where she got drugged and kept flirting with a room full of enthralled guys… but that’s another story). there were times when her lips twitched and her eyes actually lit up — but that’s all it ever was. and gillian anderson’s grave, brooding looks are simply custom-built for this role. and of course, mulder — for all his porno-loving tendencies and occasionally wacky episodes — had this impenetrably serious side to him. what can i say? they just look good together.
in hollywood, it’s practically a near-imposssible task to find somebody (much less a couple) who can radiate formidable intellect and look yummy at the same time, but these two — they did it effortlessly.
Waaahh!! I love these two. I love the X-files! I’m both excited and dreadful at the prospect of another movie. Dreadful probably for the same reason why the creators haven’t come up with a standalone story till now - they may not live up to the standard of the series’ first seasons. It might ruin the memories (although the last three seasons are a bit of a let down already).
Funny you should mention the chemistry. Call me cheesy but I’ve never been so “kilig” with an on-screen couple as I was with Mulder and Scully, with so much as a look or a simple touching of hands. We’re called “shippers,” but you might know that already, onyxx. Hay, naalala ko tuloy, how much I wanted to be like Scully, hehe.
Thanks for posting this, I could go on and on…
alvin, as far as i’m concerned, when you rule a planet you can be any age you want
you can be 4ever young! somehow it makes me glad to know you like x-files too.
zarine thanks for that enthusiastic response. so “shippers” is the word huh? actually anticipation is half the fun of their onscreen relationship. also, it looks like those plans for a new x-files movie have been shelved for a while
intellectual and yummy…i couldn’t agree more but miss the x-files no more….why don’t you succumb to the temptations of pirated dvds?
that’s what i did…just finished sex and the city, now i’m into ally mcbeal and possibly mcgyver next hehehe
actually i have all 7 seasons — when they scratched mulder off the cast, i promptly lost interest. when ke left, the show’s dynamics was no longer exciting. also, i didn’t like the way the series turned out in the end (it just seemed too contrived). i wanted the status quo to remain
I am actually watching an episode on DVD as I type this. I SO miss the x files, and anyone who loves and misses it, too, knows why without my repeating the reasons.
At the risk of raising controversy, I missed Mulder the last 2 seasons, but I thought they were well done. There were some good stories…like roadrunners and per manum, etc, and robert patrick is awesome. it just isn’t possible or fair to compare him to mulder.
long live TXF!
Yes, I miss this show too. I grew up with x files… Darn, now you know I’m 25 yo… hehehe Forever 25 in my planet!
