7/21/07 (midnight) — i've finally finished Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (thanks to zarine). i'm planning to read the whole thing again (more leisurely this time) to make sure i haven't missed anything.
the opening chapters (except ch. 1) are packed with frenetic and dizzying events. it's like JK Rowling decided to jampack this one with as much thrilling action as she can manage. you barely have ebough time to process one shocking development before the next one comes along. the middle chapters are a tad more restful as harry, hermione and ron traipse around various locations in search of various artifacts and anwers.
and near the end, there's the Battle of Hogwarts, an action-filled, rousing confrontation between the two camps that involves humans, centaurs, dementors, giants, elves, spiders, etc. many readers will be pleased to know that a number of characters from earlier books are mentioned again. be warned though, there are a lot of deaths in this book (both major and minor characters). two of my favorite characters actually died (one death in particular really saddened me).
NB: "mastering" or "defeating" death is not as straightforward as you might think. you might be pulled in several directions as more revelations begin to unfold (esp. details regarding harry's family and that of dumbledore). there is also a detailed explanation regarding dumbledore's death in book 6. basically, book 7 is about horcruxes and hallows. and yes, harry is the 7th horcrux.
like the first 6 HP books, there is an explanatory discourse near the end (before the Epilogue), and this — being the last one — ties up all the loose ends that have been left dangling in earlier books.
actually both deaths shook me up, but in different ways. has tita z. finished hers? i threatened to text her the ending last sat. but she told me she will delete all my msgs (re HP book 7) unread heheh…
no wonder things have been kind of slow this weekend. everybody was racing to finish the book. p. 444 made me chortle
waah, can’t wait to read the book.
Talking about OC-OC! Hehe.
Posted by ThePseudoshrink at July 24, 2007, 10:22 amWow! Might take a while, hehe.
I was heartbroken by that death, too. Grabe iyak ko! OK, no spoilers!
But p.444 is a hoot! Tama ka dun, onyxx. That was the only time I was actually laughing while reading. Talk about humor in dire times
take your time maerin, i’m sure you’re gonna love it.
that hilarious comment (p. 444) was a welcome surprise. everything seemed serious and sinister, then boom JK Rowling drops the bomb. a couple of bystanders eyed me warily because i kept on giggling like a fool… baka meron pa daw forthcoming HP book.
Posted by onyxx at July 24, 2007, 5:13 pmApparently, just an encyclopedia. Potterpedia! Weee! I’m not very much into details but I might catch the hype if ever, hehe

Posted by zar at July 25, 2007, 9:39 amwhat’s the buzz about my seatmate?
TITA Z UPDATE:
nasa chapter 3 na siya. I won’t tell kung chapter 3 ng book 1 or 7. HEHEHE. Basta, she’s reading the book 2 chapters a day. she says she has other priorities … like her …. CROSS STITCH. hehe.
anal-retentive is a gentler euphemism for “obsessive-compulsive” — Freudian concept nga lang. kumusta venkman, tapos na book 7? ikwento mo ke tita z… ;D

I enjoyed it so much, though I would have enjoyed it more if TheHusband is not breathing on my neck. I got first dibs this time, and he got the e-book. Babasahin ko uli next weekend.
