*gasp* what's this? according to j.k. rowling, the formidable, bespectacled supreme HP wizard was actually gay. and what's more, he's supposed to have fallen in love with Gellert Grendelwich (Grinwald)!

err… this leaves me STUPEFIED and flabbergasted.

rowling herself made this revelation at the Carnegie Hall in New York City yesterday, in an event where she met with young HP fans and their parents.

other juicy tidbits: Neville Longbottom eventually marries Hannah Abbott, but Hagrid won't be as lucky apparently (giantesses are rare finds in his neck of the woods, i suppose).

i guess the cat's out of the bag now weeheheh….

I was surprised, too. I never really thought of that before; I never suspected. Hmmm…

I was watching The Jane Austen Book Club and there was a scene where this gay character, Allegra, said that she thinks Charlotte Lucas (P&P) is gay. Then her mother commented that she loves it when the book characters seem to have a secret life that the author doesn’t know about. Pretty much the same for Dumbledore, I guess.

Do you think this “revelation” will have any effect on the upcoming movies?

i don’t know why some people have this urge to ‘label’ you. in any case, i don’t think it’s appropriate to view things or people in the past with 21st century sensibilities.

i’ve always thought of charlotte l. as a clear-eyed bore, but her seeming ‘ordinariness’ only served to emphasize elizabeth’s wit, i guess. gay? hmm… i don’t think so.

as for dumblebore, as long as he doesn’t come across as a screaming fag (heaven forbid!) in the next film, i don’t think it would really affect the way i view the series.

Well, I agree with you.
I was actually drawn to the idea that a character could have a dimension that his/her creator doesn’t know about or didn’t intend to impart. But in the end, it’s nothing but reader interpretation and is only good for the purpose of discussion.
