This meme from Zarine is long overdue. In contrast to the year that was (2007), 2008 just roared in like a storm and up to now it feels like i’m barely hanging on. anyway, i guess it’s about time we get this show on the road.
okay, here are 10 things that made 2007 memorable for me. they’re not in any particular order, mind.
books — now, where would my sanity be without them? despite my other interests i guess i’ll always have time to read and re-read books (esp. my favorite titles). i’ve bought fewer titles this year but that hasn’t stopped me from going back to my worn, dog-eared friends.
internet — fortunately there’s the Net to keep me preoccupied. a great source of information and a basically my pipeline to the rest of the world.
blogging and blogging pals — yep, i guess blogging is very much a part of my routine now. not only that, i got to interact with fellow bloggers, which is of course a great way of expanding your horizons.
friends — past and present, for all seasons and for varying reasons. thank you guys, for making me feel i’m not so hopeless after all. ok, scratch that. still, thank you. i can’t state all my reasons here, but i’d like to say that you’ve made a bigger impact on me than you’ll ever realize.
family (esp. my sister) — again, this is too personal for me dwell on. still i’d like to acknowledge my sister who has always been there for me despite my recalcitrant and difficult stages. what can i say? i guess i was born ‘difficult’ heheh.
anime — whoah!! definitely a life-saver.
movies — yeah! in 2007 i’ve seen a few that i liked, although not as many as those that i’ve fancied in 2006. even the prospect of watching the Oscars this year doesn’t really excite like it used to. ah well. maybe next year, things will get better.
an idea that just won’t fade away — this is more of a personal quest or something. still, i’m surprised at how long it has endured. it has changed me in a way that’s hard to define, and at times when i felt like giving up this was the lifeline that sustained me.
coffee shops — got time to spare? where else can you hang out for hours on end — watching patrons come in, sip/slurp/swallow their coffee, yabber with their friends, pound on their laptops, read their notes/newspapers/textbooks, or generally just kill time — without having to worry if you’ve overstayed your welcome? of course the inflated prices can make you wince occasionally and the food selection isn’t really all that great but hey, considering the plusses it’s not that bad.
malls — great therapy if you’re feeling somewhat drained and you need to revive your flagging spirits…
the tag goes to Pseudoshrink, Alvin and Alia.
here’s another meme from Daisy…

hey, i’m tagging a few people, too: alia, karmee, zarine, misty
after 3 weeks of waiting, the films that i’ve been wanting to see (I Am Legend, Bee Movie, National Treasure) are finally here. and because i’m rather busy these days, i decided to watch I Am Legend first.
boy am i glad i did. okay, so the first 45 minutes scared the bejeezus out of me. frankly, i don’t know what i would have done if i’d been placed in the same situation as robert neville (will smith). i could maybe survive any of the following — fear, isolation, despair — but not all three at the same time. man, if that had been me i would’ve probably taken the easiest way to put on end to my existence.
will smith carries his role (and the movie) beautifully but sam the german shepherd was amazing. simply put, sam is the single biggest factor that keeps robert neville from going over the edge. (in this case, you could really say that the dog is man’s best friend.)
you can usually gauge how effective a movie is by observing the audience’s reaction. throughout the film, we (the audience) were silent (you could practically hear a pin drop!) — you know, the kind of motionless fascination you slip into when something scary grips you. let’s just say, the silence in the theater itself was unnerving and added to the tension.
up next: Bee Movie and National Treasure. but i’m going to watch I Am Legend again, damn it.
sorry guys. no matter how hard i try, my mind just seems to be stuck back in 2007. i know it’s been a while since i posted anything (i still have a couple of memes to do and a few other loose ends to tie up). i promise i’ll get to them as soon as i wake up from this post-holiday stupor. bear with me?
having said that, i want to thank all those who have patiently dropped by and left their comments, and those who wished me well during the holidays. right back at you, guys. i really appreciate it.
