after reading about the predominantly negative reviews about Max Payne, i decided to forego watching it and went home earlier than planned — although i (depending on my schedule) might end up watching it, if only for the pleasure of watching mark wahlberg strut his bad-ass stuff onscreen.
another slight disappointment for me was Eagle Eye. i don’t know what i had expected exactly — not that i had high expectations, mind you. i just happen to like shia laBeouf, plus the fact that steven spielberg was the executive producer of the film.
i wouldn’t call it a waste exactly, but for me, Eagle Eye just seemed to lose steam halfway through its run. aside from the preposterous plot, at times the movie (esp. the the excessively loud tunnel/highway scene) feels like a collection of mindless mechanical crashes and relentless chases. i found it hard to concentrate on the story and the ending was just a little too convenient and cut-and-dried (a typical hollywood ending).
fortunately, Tropic Thunder lived up to my expectations. i’ve been yabbering about this film for some time now so i’ll try not to add to the clutter (well, not much anyway). it’s far from perfect of course, but i enjoyed it. the cameo appearances of tom cruise, matthew mcconaughey and tobey maguire (his brief ‘smoldering‘ scenes with robert downey are a blast!) are creamy icing on a yummy cake. go watch it.
heheheh…. those are the parts that really made me laugh out loud
i particularly enjoyed the scenes of tom cruise, especially his dance moves.
mordsith if that part hasn’t received so much early buzz, that would have been so much funnier
… still, i liked that part too. also that part where tom cruise out-cussed and verbally brutalized tugg speedman’s (a.k.a. ben stiller) kidnappers heheheh
Posted by onyxx at October 24, 2008, 2:46 amdisappointed with max payne. i thought it’s like constantine! that’s why i watched it. hehehe. hay naku.
pero teka, i liked eagle eye! wel, it’s probably because i liked enemy of the state and terminator. plus IT/scifi movies. the movie is a hybrid of the two, right? and though you probably don’t share my appreciation of the movie, hehehe, share ko na rin na i really liked how the AI figured out how to listen to the conversation of the SecDef and his staff (forgot the names) by translating the vibrations from the mug/cup to actual sounds.
haven’t watched tropic thunder yet.
body of lies is kewl, too! di ba mordsith?

re: Eagle Eye — normally i have no problem with sci-fi films. this time though, i was hoping for more i guess. apparently, many critics think the same way (Eagle Eye scored a measly 28% @ rottentomatoes.com). we’ve been so busy these past 2 weeks i didn’t get to see Body of Lies
I love the grasping-the-prayer-beads scene in the abbey between tobey maguire and robert downey jr. Ang galing ng facial expression! You’re right—it’s far from perfect, pero totally funny.
